This section includes of a list of the major categories of U.S. visas, both permanent (immigrant) and temporary (non-immigrant). It includes brief descriptions of each visa type, as well as the order of preference for all immigrant visas, which tend to be awarded in limited quantities.

This section is divided into the following three (3) categories:

1. Work-Related Visas include descriptions of the major employment-based immigrant visas, listed in order of preference.
2. Family-Related Visas include descriptions of the major family-based immigrant visas, listed in order of preference.
3. Temporary Visas include brief descriptions of all of the major non-immigrant visas, listed in alphabetical order by visa type.
